Every day thousands of accidents are reported around the globe, and most of them are due to human error. Some accidents happen as a result of the driver’s negligence, and failure to follow traffic laws. The majority of these cases are not major, but people’s lives are lost in the process every year.

Car accidents are common in the United States and circumstances that lead to some fatal accidents are avoidable cases. And without much ado, let’s first identify what causes most common accidents in the US.

Drunk Driving

Drunk drivers cause the highest percentage of accidents in the US. A responsible driver should only drive a car after allowing the effects of alcohol to disappear. Or else, look for a taxi to safely drive them home, since they are not in a capacity to make the right judgment on the road.

Speeding

Speeding is another cause of accidents and many ignore the speed limits that are set. You will not find many drivers carefully observe the required speed limits, especially on the highway. Speeding your car makes you more vulnerable to accidents due to a lack of proper time to maneuver the vehicle when you are faced with unavoidable circumstances.

Failure to Yeild or Stop

Drivers in a hurry contribute to serious accidents for failure to stop their car when the red light is on. The excuse is often a rush to catch up with a job or meeting. Other drivers claim to have an emergency warranting their speedy response. What they fail to understand is no work issue is more important than your life.

The most common culprits for failure to yield or stop is running red lights. This is a common cause of accident due to lack of simple observation and prioritizing your safety first.

Improper Turns

It’s no doubt human are inevitable to make errors, but those lapses in judgement when driving can cause terrible accidents. You can avoid accidents by observing street signs and other irregularities that may appear in unfamiliar areas. Wrongly interpreting street signs cause many accidents, especially around corners or ignoring to stay in your lane. It is important to learn about street signs or go back to school to relearn as that may help you avoid endangering yourself on the road.

Teenager Drivers

Parents’ allowing their teenagers to drive without monitoring them on the road is a big mistake. They are completely helpless when faced with unsafe conditions, and easily that may cause accidents. If your teenager must drive, make sure they go for a defensive driving course to prepare them about proper road usage. Also, instill habits in them, such as not using a cell phone when driving and not exceeding the required number of passengers in the vehicle.

Potholes

Driving on a rough road or with unseen potholes may cause accidents. Potholes are hazardous and especially at night motorists rarely see them. That’s why you should look at all-time drive at a manageable speed for you to spot them from a distance and have a chance to go around them. Potholes are some of the cause of major accidents in the United States and also can potentially damage your car.

Before you leave home with your car, take precaution that you observe all the necessary care is taken. Think about your loved ones, pedestrians, and other motorists. Finally, avoid any distractions that may hinder your focus.
